CLASSICAL TECHNIQUE & POINTE
VAGANOVA TEACHER SEMINAR
with
Mansur Kamaletdinov, Master Ballet Teacher
Former Principal Dancer, Teacher, Ballet Master, Choreographer and
Acting Artistic Director of the Bolshoi Ballet.

PITTSBURGH, PA
FEBRUARY 16 & 17, 2008
and
APRIL 19 & 20, 2008

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

• Methodology for creating classes for the teaching of classical dance for all levels: Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced.

•  Methodology for the performance of classical dance movements.

•  Methods for selecting the correct musical accompaniment for classical dance class, and the importance of the significance of each musical piece.

The purpose of exercise in classical dance, and learning the building blocks for performance and composition. Each part of barre and center exercise is meant not simply as warm up, in fact it is the study of the components that make up larger combinations and compositions. Like the musician first learns the twelve notes and then progresses to chords, and eventually small compositions and etudes before performing larger scale works, study of dance technique is identical in learning the foundations from which all works are composed of. Combinations are parallel to chords, arpeggios, etc, and a variation is the finished musical composition which showcases the dancers and choreographer's talents and artistic vision. Exercise is not an end in itself, but a stepping stone to learning and practicing repertoire because all repertoire is based on essential fundamentals, which are taught and learned in exercise.

Mansur’s students will act as demonstrators and assistants during the seminar. The Seminar is interactive so that participating teachers will be able to gather hands on experience instructing the dancers through the teaching of techniques they acquire and learn. Teachers are welcome to bring one of their students free of charge. The program will also give a thorough understanding of Classical Exercise and Technique and the methods for properly teaching students to prepare for learning Repertoire. This seminar provides over 15 hours of instruction time and the chance of a lifetime to study with a Ballet Master with over 60 years of teaching experience and who provides an unbroken link from the creators of these master works.
