2010 VAGANOVA BALLET SEMINAR
FOR STUDENTS & TEACHERS
CLASSICAL & CHARACTER DANCE
MARCH 26-28, 2010
Eugene, OR

Cherry Blossom Musical Arts is excited to invite inter/advanced and advanced ballet students and teachers interested in developing their skills to attend a special ballet seminar taught by Mansur Kamaletdinov from Pittsburgh, PA.

The Vaganova Ballet Seminar focuses on the perfection of all basic movements of Classical and Character Dance, and covers the original choreography of classical repertoire from major ballets such as Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty, Raymonda, Nutcracker, Don Quixote, Laurencia and others. Mornings focus on Classical Teachnique and Variations while the afternoons are devoted to the study of Character Dance.

Emphasis is placed on the student's individuality and the development of their understanding of music and the performance of roles from these classical ballets. Mansur also teaches the history of Russian ballet and it's founders; the history of music, of composers such as Tchaikovski, Stravinski and Prokofiev; familiarity with theatrical designers such as Benoit, Bakst and Korovin; and great Russian dancers like Anna Pavlova, Vaslav Nijinksi and others.

Character Dance is a unique and integral part of Russian Classical Ballet that exists only in Russia. Although an essential part of many major ballets, there is no school of Character Dance anywhere outside of Russia and is a unique form of art that is gradually disappearing. In addition to performing classical roles and working as a classical teacher, beginning at age 22, Mansur also specialized in Character Dance. He was Principal Character Dancer with the Bolshoi and was the Chair of the Character Dance Department at the Bolshoi Theatre. For the serious student or teacher, study of Character Dance with Mansur offers a unique opportunity.

Teachers of Classical Dance and other Ballet Professionals are welcome attend as observers and/or participants and may bring one student free of charge.
